The Reason I Show My Support
I'm so stoked to be part of this hop giveaway.  Every year, I look for something to do to help bring awareness to this month.  I'm all about multitasking.  I decided that I'd combine my giveaway with promotion for an upcoming anthology that I am privileged to be affiliated with as well as awareness for October being Breast Cancer Awareness month.
A woman that will forever be embedded in my memory, not because she is gone from this world, but because of the life that she's lived.  She was diagnosed with cancer during a time when she was supposed to be celebrating one of the greatest gifts a woman can have.  After years of trying to get pregnant, she was able to finally able to have a baby.  Concerned about the issues she was having with breast feeding, she went to the doctor.  The outcome was learning that she had cancer.  The first year of her newborn son's life was spent being too weak to hold him.  She couldn't breastfeed as she wanted to.  Imagine the pain she felt.  It's not something that I would wish on anyone.  The family rallied around her, going as far as shaving their heads, wearing the wigs or scarves when she did and keeping her encouraged.  I continue to share and support causes because of Jen.  She reminds me to keep going in the face of adversity.  I will continue to share her story as I watch her family from afar via Facebook.
You'll find a giveaway, the information for another cause that I am associated with and helpful information about the true reason for this month.  Thanks for stopping by the blog.  I hope it is helpful and inspiring.

First Chapter:

~~ The Hindrance (1) ~~

~~Ari~~

The main doors of the meeting room crash open and in runs a small man.  He isn’t really small, but short by comparison to those of our kind.  There are those that believe that fairies are cute, dainty, little creatures that can be held in the palm of their hand. This is a gross misconception.  We don’t flit around, spread pixie dust or any other crap like that.  I, for one, wouldn’t be caught dead in those skimpy, slutty, attention grabbing outfits that she parades around in.  We definitely aren’t off spreading love and whatever else that little twit stands for.  I am nobody’s Tinkerbell

Who I am is the reason for this tale?  It isn’t supposed to be like this.  I didn’t think that it would get this bad.  Yet, here I sit.  I am sitting at the head of the table, watching an annoying, little man make his way to the elders of our community to inform them of something I already know about.  If I weren’t who I was, then I would’ve left already.  Unfortunately, I am who I am and I have to give a damn.  So, I wait as his weathered body attempts to quicken his steps.  He can tell that we are patiently waiting, some of us less so than others, for him to speak.  It is not often the evening meal is interrupted.  Come to think of it, I can only think of one time.  That man lost his head after delivering his news.  Hmm, I wonder if that will be what follows today.  Ooh, I love a good beheading.  Although, that one had been far too quick for my liking.

The little man finally makes it to the center of the room and bows his head.  I think I'm going to make a suggestion that we put a microphone or intercom at the entrance.  It would save us precious time.  I mean who really has time to sit around waiting for our elderly to make their way to us to present themselves.  I could've done seven rounds of training by now.

I lean to my right where one of the only people that can tolerate my usual foul mood is sitting.  My eyes flash.  I see the reflection of it in the silverware that’s on the table.  I realize the twitchiness that I am feeling is stemming from the side of me that I try to keep dormant.  The need to stop this man’s heart or separate his head from his shoulders for his increasingly slow pace is not who I am.  It is all part of the darkness that I carry within and fight daily to control.

Before I can voice my greatest desire, he does.

"Saph, don't.  I already know that you're itching for a kill. Your hand is twitching.  Fifteen and I'll turn you loose," Carlimine whispers.

At first glance, he looks like a wise, old man with his twin peaks of white streaks that grow from matching points at either side of his temples. The rest of his hair appears to be in rebellion and is jet black.  All of it is bone straight and shoulder length when it is released from the confines of the dijo; the hair binding, hand created by my aunt that is silver and carved with his initials. Today, it is up as mine is.  His hair is usually either bound in that or the blades we were given.

We wear sacred symbols on the hilt of our blades.  They are whispered protections from our ancestors handed down by the heads of the family line. All of our blades, even the ones we wear in our hair, have been twice blessed.  Once by the family head, then again by our unit leader. The blades in our hair look like chopsticks.  The enemy doesn't know it's a weapon until it is too late because it is protruding from their body. The kibos are my second favorite weapons.  The first is my kiban and it is a beauty.

Carlimine is my leader.  He keeps the ne-athé at bay.  He is currently interrupting my thoughts of death and dismemberment with his words of caution and discretion.  His call sign is "Uncle Carl".  Although, there are times when he is referred to solely as “C.”.  It’s not something I’ve ever used, but I have noticed others making a reference to it.  The “call sign” I know is the one that I use.

If that name comes across any of my screens, then I know I have something or someone to take care of.  His looks are deceiving, which is the way he likes it.  When one looks at his appearance, he looks cool, calm and collected.  He doesn't look as if he has a care in the world.  Underneath it all, he is cold, callous and calculating.  He is forever accessing the situations around us.  The man is a well oiled machine with the body of a twenty-five year old. He is cut so tough that a person will need medical attention if they touch him. The buck stops with him. He taught me everything I know.  His voice brings my mind back to the here and now.  I'm not allowed to let my mind drift.  It isn't the best if I am left to my own devices for long periods of time.  Hence, the reason for the continued mental interruptions.

"Saph, you are not paying attention.  Access the room. What do you see?" his words float around me as I make myself focus and do as he has commanded.  Even when his words are whispered, I know the difference between a request and a command.

I settle into my seat, but not in the way most would.  My chair is wood carved with etchings that match the design of my wings.  If those wings were to be released at this moment, then they would give off an indigo hue because I am in the seat of royalty and leadership.  The cushions that pad the back and base of my chair share that color as do my robes.  The back of the chair is at least three feet higher than the top of my head when I am seated. It is at least a foot and a half taller when I am standing next to it.  I stand five feet seven inches without heels.  My chair is a seat of power, but is the smallest in comparison with that of my aunt's and father's.

When I am seated at my place then my back is flush with the elongated backing of my chair.  My feet settle on the post that rests at the front of my seat so that they don't dangle.

"A royal does not go about kicking their feet, scuffing their shoes or shredding their garments because they think it is fun, Arabella.  There is a time for play and a time for seriousness.  You must learn to conform and bend to the purposes that have been set before you, my dear."

I giggle to myself as my aunt's words come back to me.  If she only knew how the words would come to shape my life, then I don't think she would've ever have posed them to me in that manner.  Carlimine's finger tapping my hand causes me to redirect my thoughts.  That gesture is a silent reminder that I am not doing what he commanded me to do.   It grates on my nerves and comforts me all at the same time that he knows me well enough to know when I am doing what I am supposed to or not.  I attune myself to my surroundings.

My posture is one of rigidity because I've stiffened due to my uncle's slight chastisement.  I have to remind myself that he is doing this to teach me.  I relax my shoulders and take a deep breath.  I am in the middle of my chair. My long arms are resting on the arm rails of it and my hands are loosely hanging over the ends.  I open my previously closed eyes and begin my assessment.

The little man is still blathering on.  I have no clue exactly what he is saying, but the point of it is there is a threat against the kingdom.  Purif is to be attacked sometime in the near future.  I begin to watch the man a little bit closer.  The bald spot at the top of his head is shiny enough for me to see the reflection of my uncle’s face.  Goodness! How sad is that?  I wish I could just put him out of his misery.  He’s an old man and there won’t be many that will miss him.  I’m sure they will get over it with the proper enticement.

Available now...Hermes' Boundary by Ellie Keys (Giveaway!!)

IT'S HERE!!  After having to push the release date a few weeks, it's finally here and ready for reader consumption!  Hermes' Boundary is AVAILABLE NOW!  The second installment of the Touched by a god Series is available in ebook format.  Pick up your copy today, just follow the links below.

Title: Hermes' Boundary
Series: Touched by a god, Book 2
Author: Ellie Keys
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Mythological
Publisher: Life In "E" motion

Hermes stood in the corner and waited while the mortal woman talked to the mortal child.  He’d never been one to have a desire to be close to anyone in that age range, especially not a little female.  He hadn’t had to deal with one since he was one himself.  The mortal they called Qui (spoken kwee) was the one talking to the little one named Renneé.  They sometimes referred to her as R.J. Why he didn’t understand.  They were discussing some project the little one was worried about.  The woman, he guessed he should start using her name since his uncle had him spending time with her, was trying her best to remain calm despite the fact the little one, Rennée, was obviously distraught.  The woman was named Ty’Quishia Johnson, which was a surprise because he hadn’t ever heard of a mortal with her skin pigment ever being given a name so unique.   Once one met the woman, then they would realize that she needed to have a name that separated her from all the others in the world.  She is as unconventional as they come.
Qui’s hair was changed with some chemical the mortals use to change their hair from time to time.  Was it called hair dye?  Yes, that's what it was called.  Her hair was now a fiery red tone that was close to Scarlett’s hair color.  Her normally brown with almost amber tones hair color could not be seen with the flame like color she had on her head now.  Hermes felt like those colors in a mortal's hair was like them putting on one of those wigs or falls that he heard so many of his models talking about.  Her slight frame showcased decent curves.  She had barely a mortal male’s handful of boobs in the red shirt that had one of those built in bras.  Her signature bracelet sized earrings were in her ears and so was the link necklace she was known to wear daily.  He remembered them being referred to as hoops; the earrings. The costume jewelry had changed from gold to silver, but it was her “go to” set.  The actual bracelets she always wore matched her necklace.
Her ass, he could go on for days about the curve and shape of that ass and how everything she put on made her ass look delectable enough to bite into.

Introducing Ellie Keys

Author Ellie Keys

Available Now!

It was the reason that I couldn’t ever bring myself to stay mad at him. It’s the reason that we were amicably separated. It’s also the reason that I was making cookies for a woman that I should have by all rights hated with every fiber of my being. I didn’t and I still don’t. I so don’t. I am indebted to her for making him realize that he needed to let us go. I should probably have my head examined, regularly.
I’m happy that he’s no longer here, taking up my space and making our lives in this house miserable because he is. I am now that is. I thought I was happy for him then. It’s been a year since that day. I can’t even believe it. A whole year has passed and all of it is still fresh. All of it is as real as if it happened a matter of moments ago and not so many moments ago. I didn’t think then that I would ever be in the position that I am in now. I didn’t see this curve ball coming. I share my story now as the moments unfold and not as me reflecting.
As I stand in my kitchen again, I look down and shake my head. My frustration level grew as I realized exactly what I’d done.
“Dammit, now I have to make some more mix for the cookies,” my eyes settled on a tray with only one cookie dough ball left on it.

Excerpt from A Mother's Burden
"No. I am sick and tired of doing this with you. It's the same argument. The same conversation and I'm tired of it," my son, Marcus, growled at me as he quickly stood from my kitchen table and dropped his plate into the formerly spotless sink.
"Marc, honey, I don't know what you're getting so worked up over. If this thing with this girl is really something, then there is nothing that I could do to mess it up. If she is having issues or some need...," I began as I watched my son's face contort into a mask of complete horror and possibly justified anger.
"Are. You. Fu...serious? You are actually questioning whether or not I'm serious about her or she's serious about me? I'm committed to this woman. I'm so committed to her that I was willing to subject her to your judgment. I thought I was bringing the woman that I loved to meet the most amazing woman that I've ever known. I didn't know that I was meeting the cruel, nonobjective, conniving body double that sat with me and shredded the heart of the woman I plan to marry," he shook his head and turned his back on me. He took a few deep breaths then moved toward the back door. "I thought you would care enough to try. I guess my expectations were far too high. The woman I have respected and adored, the woman that raised me decided to take a vacation. I hoped you would see just how important she is to me since I wanted you to meet her. Amazing just how wrong I was."

Excerpt from An Author's Tale:
I heard her screaming his name and him pleading with her to not be so loud or the neighbors would think that he was killing her. I couldn't hold back the laughter when that caused them to begin to bicker back and forth over whether or not that was the right time to think about the neighbors. I believe the question that was screamed was:
"Do you really think the neighbors would have mistaken my screaming orgasm as a sign that my dumb ass boyfriend is attempting to murder me?"
"I certainly didn't," I'd stated out loud and evidently loud enough for her to hear me.

Pre-order (Avail. March 5th)

Excerpt from Scarlett's Letter
She took him further into her throat and heard his beautiful response to her machinations. She moaned and he hissed as her tongue swirled around him. He quickly pulled her off of him and lifted her lips to his own. After she was kissed senseless, he grabbed her hips and lifted her above his head. When did he remove her bikini bottoms?
“Spread,” he commanded.
She immediately complied as she spread her legs and felt her toes curl over the back of the chair. He chuckled then kissed and nibbled her thighs. Scarlett was still in the air just above his head as he continued to torture her with his mouth. His strong arms held her suspended just above him. He licked a trail down her legs to the backs of her knees and she giggled then screamed her frustration. Aides moved back along her legs to nibble at her thighs, but never where she wanted him. She squirmed in his hold and his chuckle told her that he was enjoying himself.

Pre-order (Avail. March 31st)

Excerpt from Hermes' Boundary
“H., did you ever think that the thing that you try to steer clear of is the one thing that you might actually need? I think that might actually be the case. So, I’ve decided to make that my side project until the baby comes, then I will have something else to focus on. Until then, I’m going to work steadily to prove it to you,” she’d said to him as they watched Cerberus gnaw on a bone.
Neither of them knew if the bone was from a human or an animal, but Cerberus seemed to be enjoying it.
“Hermes, be open to this or else,” was all that his uncle had said on the matter before he’d dismissed him.
Sometimes he wished that he could turn off the internal “call button” he was born with. It was tuned into to every one of his brethren and, in rare cases, mortals.
